Manchester United’s goalkeeping target, Andre Onana, is expected to fly to Manchester today in a bid to complete the move from San Siro to Old Trafford, in time for some involvement in the upcoming United States pre-season tour.
Onana is set for an Old Trafford reunion with Ten Haag |
With David De Gea leaving the Red Devils after 12 years and a controversial contract saga, it was already clear, over the last days, that United were most likely going to make a new goalkeeper their next signing. And all looks in order for Andre Onana to reunite with Erik ten Haag, who also coached him at Ajax.
When Erik ten Haag joined Manchester United, there were already signals of a much needed clear out taking center stage. But while most fans wouldn't have guessed, in the early stages, that the departure of club legend, David De Gea, could be the start of the revolution, it now seems that it is going to be a turning point in the progress of the team.

Manchester United and Erik ten Haag would have come into the summer with a striker and a ball-playing goalkeeper as the two targets on the top of their list. And while their summer has been delayed and limited by the club sale talks and budget restrictions due to FFP concerns, it now looks likely that they will makes sweeps for both targets, with the latter looking the more likely to be done before pre-season.
Immediately the end of De Gea’s contract was confirmed, all signs indicated a rapid progression of Manchester United transfer process for a goalkeeper, with their N⁰. 1 target being Andre Onana.

So while the deal has been held up by United’s bid against Inter’s valuation of Onana, Manchester United search for low-cost options like Dean Henderson, and Inter’s (now obsolete) interest in Romelu Lukaku, all looks set for Onana to make the switch to England. According to Alfredo Pedulla, Inter have pulled out from the Romelu Lukaku saga after Chelsea confirmed interest from Juventus and are now focused on wrapping up the deal for Onana whilst making plans to secure Yann Sommer and Anatoliy Trubin as replacement for the Cameroonian shot-stopper and Samir Handanovic.

The Express has now confirmed that Onana, 27, will be headed to Manchester, England, on Sunday to put pen to paper on a deal worth £43 million (£39+4M) so that he could join the squad in time for the pre-season tour, just like Mason Mount.
After the Onana deal, United are then expected to proceed with the acquisition of a striker, most notably Rasmus Hojlund; a second goalkeeper (with the imminent departure of Dean Henderson after Onana’s arrival); a central defensive midfielder (due to the likely sales of Fred and Scott McTominay); a centreback to depose, replace, or rival Maguire; and a left winger, with sources reporting a permanent striker role for Rashford next season and a move away from Old Trafford for Jadon Sancho.
