Marcus Rashford has reportedly agreed to a new five year contract with Manchester United, after months of talks, whilst Rasmus Hojlund could be the next new name to walk through the doors of Carrington, after Onana.
Rashford was United’s main man last season |
English attacker, Marcus Rashford, is now in the final stages of negotiations for a new contract that will keep him at Manchester United till 2028, and reports from Sky Sports have revealed that he rejected much more lucrative offers from English clubs and those abroad, opting to stay with the club, from whose academy he broke out.
Rashford, 25, became United’s first player to reach the 30-goal, since Robin van Persie in 2012/13, in what was his best season for Manchester United after enduring a turbulent 18 months prior to Erik ten Haag’s arrival.
The boss and his lethal weapon |
His rejuvenation and refinement into a goal-oriented powerhouse was pivotal in United’s successes last season as his 30 goals helped them clinch their first title in 7 years, the Carabao Cup, as well as a third-place league finish. So, it wasn't much of a surprise when clubs like Paris Saint-Germain came calling for his signature whilst United battled to retain his services.
But as it stands, he has rejected all advances and chosen to stick with Manchester United—a decision that will gladden the hearts of many United fans across the globe.
Rasmus Hojlund could be the #9 at Old Trafford |
Meanwhile, although Rashford will soon extend his stay at Manchester United, the team is still in the need of a striker. Rashford has often expressed his preference of playing as a left winger rather than a striker; but even if he will be solely used as a striker next season, Manchester United cannot rely only on the Englishman.
As a result, reports have been making rounds that Manchester United are interested in Atalanta's Danish youngster, Rasmus Hojlund, with various outlets reporting a rumoured player-plus-cash bid from the Red Devils.
Hojlund is a Manchester United fan |
On Monday, Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Atalanta values Rasmus Hojlund at €70 million, but Manchester United will be looking to close the deal at a lower price tag, especially considering the willingness of the player to join the club as well as ten Haag’s keenness with the player's athleticism and skills.
United are now expected to proceed with negotiations for the striker after concluding with Inter on Andre Onana, so a lot of transfer activity could happen while the manager drills the players during pre-season.
