According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace have reportedly agreed a deal with Manchester United for English goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, and a medical has been scheduled for today.
Dean Henderson is headed for Crystal Palace |
Dean Henderson's future has been under scrutiny, with a mix of uncertainty, since the beginning of the summer transfer window. The departure of David de Gea and the arrival of Andre Onana proved that Erik ten Haag was not sold on to Henderson’s qualities as a goalkeeper.
It was now a case of if he could become the second goalkeeper, but the English man always made it clear that he was not cut out to play second fiddle to anybody. And as such, a transfer this summer for first team game time looked to be in the cards for him.
Henderson wants to be first-choice |
At the start of the window, he looks to be a prime target for Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest, as he had spent a season on loan there last season—though it was cut short by injury. The Reds looked set to make a £20 million bid for the goalkeeper, but his fortunes look to be reversed when fellow compatriot, Tom Heaton, sustained an injury.
Due to Heaton's injury, United contemplated holding onto Henderson as the back-up goalkeeper for Onana, but it was always clear that if the right bid came, they would sell. And it looks like that right bid is here.
Tom Heaton’s injury caused a bit of a stir |
Prior to the start of the Premier League's third game week, Manchester United had already scouted and conducted a medical on Fenerbahçe goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, to ascertain his fitness as they look to set to move Dean Henderson on. Having already signed Matt Turner from Arsenal, Nottingham Forest removed the foot a bit from the negotiation pedal, allowing Crystal Palace to push as front-runners for Henderson and secure an agreement with Manchester United in a deal worth up to £20 million and a percentage of his sell-on fee.
Altay Bayindir is already in Manchester to complete the move |
Manchester United gave the green light for a medical to be conducted in a bid to advance the transfer and all now seems in place for Dean Henderson to join the South London club. The Red Devils would look to invest €5-6 million from Henderson’s fee into securing the services of Altay Bayindir.
United look set to have a busy last few days of the summer window, as they have a number of positions to fill, but it looks like they could already have the backup goalkeeper role already settled as early as possible.
