Manchester United could start their negotiations for a new midfielder this week with the departure of Fred and increasing interest in Donny van de Beek.
United’s midfield revamp is almost complete |
Manchester United announced the departure of 30-year-old Brazilian midfielder, Fred, from the club to Turkish club, Fenerbahçe, for £13 million (£9+4 million) on Sunday after amidst a heartwarming send-off from both fans and teammates.
And report also revealed on the same day that Ajax had become interested in Dutch midfielder, Donny van de Beek, even with his ongoing negotiations to secure a move to Real Soceidad.
While this moves may not be the most financially lucrative for United, they will be the ones that create the space and extra budget for a much-needed extra midfield option in the squad.
United have some quality in midfield |
Of course, the squad has got Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Christian Eriksen in the team; with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo getting promoted, Mason Mount getting recruited, and Hannibal Mejbri looking like a player that could stay for the season, but there is still a gap that needs to be filled especially with the teams expected involvement in the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
Erik ten Haag has shown, last season, that he is a manager that wants to go for every available trophy, which means that he would want to field a strong side in every competition. And this translates to ample game time for each and every midfielder that he considers to be part of his plans.
Fred has moved to Fenerbahçe for £13M |
It has been clearly noted that although Fred could be a good squad player, he wouldn't be an integral part of the team, hence his move to Fenerbahçe. Donny van de Beek is another player who has also been slated for a departure, with interest from Roma, Real Sociedad, and most recently Ajax.
If all moves fast, the Dutch midfielder could have a new club before the end of the week, which would mean that by then, Manchester United will be well into negotiations for a new midfielder. World Cup star, Sofyan Amrabat, is the most heavily linked option, with some reports already stating that he prefers the move to Manchester United amidst interest from Saudi Arabia and even Juventus.
Sofyan Amrabat is the midfielder favoured by the fans |
But just last week, reports came in that United also had Everton's Amadou Onana on the midfield shortlist. Whether the club prefers the Belgian or the Moroccan is yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure—United will step up their midfield negotiations this week.
