Manchester United need midfielders next season |
It is common knowledge that Manchester United will be in the market for a midfielder in the summer.
And while they won't be the only club with midfield needs, it is clear that if they must keep developing at this rate, then they'll need to get a marquee, press-resistant, ball-carrying midfielder.

With immense hope of Champions League football, a seemingly incumbent influx of funds from new ownership (most probably from Qatar), as well as the promise of competing at the highest level, Manchester United will be the dream for most players.
Which is why it is no surprise that they are being rumoured to be attracted to a number of players. But while most this is just paper talk, there is no smoke without fire.
To save you from the trouble of sifting fake news from real, here are four midfielders Manchester United could sign this summer.
Frenkie De Jong
Frenkie maintained that he wanted to stay at Barça last summer |
It is not news that Ten Haag’s compatriot a d former player, Frenkie De Jong, has been and will still be on the radar for Manchester United.
And with recent news of La Liga president, Javier Tebas, buttressing that Barcelona need to sell players before they can buy in the summer, Frenkie De Jong, who is on high wages, will be the go-to player for Barça to sell.
Manchester United ousted De Jong’s Barcelona last month |
With Champions League, incoming new investment, Barça’s financial status, and prospect of reuniting with a manager who groomed him, Frenkie’s stance on coming to Manchester United could change to a positive one. And there are recent reports that having Casemiro as a prospective midfield partner is a situation that interests Frenkie.
Adrien Rabiot
Rabiot has scored 9 times for Juve this season |
Following the saga with his mother and agent, Veronique Rabiot, most Manchester United fans wouldn't be too eager to chase Adrien Rabiot this summer, just like Frenkie De Jong.
But Rabiot has enjoyed a fine season with Juventus, cementing his place as an important player in Allegri’s team with his strength, stamina, ball carriage, and lethality in front of goal.
With 9 goals and 2 assists, Rabiot is Juventus’ second highest goalscorer and undoubtedly their most important midfielder. But his contract runs out in July, and Juventus haven't met the €10 million salary his mother wants for his new contract.
Adrien #Rabiot’s contract with #Juventus expires in June 2023: the french midfielder currently earns €7M/year + 2M as bonuses and the mother-agent asks a new salary of 10M/year. 2 #PremierLeague’s clubs have already shown interest to sign him as free agent from July. #transfers

The 27-year-old Frenchman is already one of the highest earners in Turin with a €7M salary (which, according to Nicolo Schira, is the same amount Juventus have presented for a new deal), but his mom-gent believes he should be getting more. And that might be a decision Juventus might not agree to.
United would be pumped up a bit on transfer cash when their proposed takeover is complete and they could utilize the opportunity to bring the midfielder to England, although it is still believed that negotiating his wages will be a hurdle.
Alexis Mac Allister
Alexis Mac Allister is enjoying his time at Brighton |
World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister, is one of the impressive Argentines who has caught many eyes since the events of the global tournament in Qatar. So it wasn't a surprise when reports revealed that United we are in talks for the player.
Mac Allister, valued at €42 million, is enjoying a wonderful season at Brighton and Hove Albion and is one of the most in-demand players from the Seagulls, along with his midfield partner, Moises Caicedo.
With 10 goal contributions and his stable press-resistant marshalling of the midfield, he has been important to this (formerly Potter’s) De Zerbi’s Brighton team who are challenging for European football next season.
Marcel Sabitzer
Sabitzer has made his mark in Manchester |
Already on loan at Manchester United from Bayern Munich, Marcel Sabitzer has already made it clear that he prefers Manchester to Bavaria. And this hasn't gone unnoticed by United fans.
The Austrian’s intensity, tackling, passing range, and long range strikes have been well utilized in the short time that he has featured. He made his debut in the draw against Crystal Palace with a 10-man United side and almost created a big chance for Rashford, if not for bad officiating.
Sabitzer started a move which ended in a goal against Leeds |
With a well-balanced mix of defensive and offensive abilities, Sabitzer has shown that he can cover for an unavailable Eriksen or Casemiro and even take the mantle in some situations.
So although he hasn't scored or assisted yet, his tackles and quick switches have been integral to some of Manchester United’s goals, and Erik ten Haag might want to keep him considering he'll be a cheaper option and his interest to remain at Old Trafford.
